01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of New York’s Koreatown at 17 E 32nd St, Dons Bogam offers an authentic Korean barbecue experience that masterfully balances tradition with a modern twist. This Korean barbecue restaurant and cocktail bar is a haven for meat lovers and enthusiasts of vibrant, bold flavors, and it elevates every meal into an interactive culinary journey.

The ambiance at Dons Bogam is intimate and inviting, featuring softly dimmed lighting and a cozy bar area, making it an ideal spot for both lively group dinners and romantic evenings. The atmosphere complements the rich, sizzling smells emanating from the tabletop grills, instantly igniting your appetite and setting the stage for a truly memorable dining experience.

The menu is thoughtfully curated and includes standout offerings like the LA Galbi, tender bone-in beef short ribs sliced in the iconic LA style, and the Spicy Marinated Prime Rib Eye, which delivers a perfect harmony of heat and umami that lingers delightfully with every bite. For those craving something a bit more adventurous, the Maeun Galbijjim presents spicy braised beef ribs slow-cooked with daikon, dates, and carrots, offering a succulent, melt-in-your-mouth texture enriched by a subtle sweetness from the dates.

Complementing the barbecue selections, dishes such as the BulDak—crispy pan-fried chicken marinated in a fiery sauce—and the Dubu Kimchi, a spicy stir-fried pork with kimchi served alongside steamed tofu, showcase Dons Bogam’s ability to capture the diverse essence of Korean flavors. Each dish is accompanied by an ever-changing assortment of banchan (side dishes) that are refreshing, crunchy, and irresistibly tangy, encouraging you to savor bite after bite.

Beyond the food, the service truly enhances the experience. Many guests appreciate how the attentive staff, often including their skilled waitress, takes charge of grilling the meat right at your table, ensuring everything is cooked perfectly while you relax and enjoy the social ambiance. The care and precision in service reflect the passion behind the kitchen, transforming a simple meal into an immersive cultural feast.

Don’t overlook their beverage offerings, which range from classic Korean teas like Jasmine Green Tea to refreshing American favorites such as Coke and Ginger Ale. For those seeking something more spirited, the cocktail bar impresses with house-infused lychee soju, a fan favorite that adds a sweet, fragrant twist to your meal.

While Dons Bogam’s prices are on the higher end compared to some other Korean barbecue spots in the area, diners consistently agree that the quality of meat, generous portions, and impeccable service justify every dollar spent. Whether you’re exploring the flavors of Korea for the first time or a seasoned Korean BBQ aficionado, Dons Bogam promises a well-rounded, soul-satisfying experience that embodies the warmth and richness of Korean cuisine right in Manhattan’s bustling Koreatown.

We went for lunch and it was delicious. The service was great ribeye and skirt steak on the barbecue was awesome. The waitress did all the cooking for us at the table. All the sides were delicious as well. It was well worth the price is there as this is more expensive than the other places to the West.

Nice place with good service & tasty food. I visited here because If was a Micheline recommended place on the Micheline guide website. It definitely did not live up to those standards but who knows, maybe it was just a marketing thing. I ordered the boneless sliced steak which came with a choice side of seafood soup, steamed rice, & small condiment sides such as kimchi & assorted others. The flavors were good but not great. This was the lunch special $25.95 (June 2025 price) Overall I would say the quality and flavors were good but not amazing. I aim to return here to sample their green tea noodle dish.

Perfect place for lunch in Ktown, highly recommend the grilled salted mackerel, beef ribs soup and chicken stew. They also offer different banchan each time. The space has slightly dim lighting with a small bar area. The meat quality is good and portions are generous.

I somehow don't have a photo of their bibimbap, so I apologize for that. Great bibimbap! The seafood pancake was crispy, it was also well-distributed with everything in every bite. The squid was exceptionally chewy and tasty. The sides actually left a great impression on me, not only were they refilled accordingly but the kimchi (perfection), cucumbers (crunchy), soybean sprouts (I loved it), and especially sweet potato were awesome! Also, the sauce. Loved the sauce. It ain't a Michelin-recommended place for nothing! Worth a visit.

If you’re craving Korean BBQ in the city, this spot is a must. The Prime Marinated Beef Platter was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly at the tabletop grill. We also loved the crispy kimchi pajeon, the kkaenip bulgogi, and the comforting kimchi jjigae. The house-infused lychee soju was a standout. They’re also running a promo free Korean stew with any beef platter which makes the experience even better.

Some friends brought us to dinner here. It was an amazing experience. The food was incredible & the service was great also. We had pork dumplings & shrimp shumae for appetizers. For dinner we had the marinated chicken & the ribeye. Both meats were delicious. The chicken literally melted in your mouth.

Well known kbbq spot near ktown offering pricey, but delicious marinated meats, casseroles and more. Started with half a dozen banchan, there is a variety of meat set options for the table to choose from or a la carte. The items are cooked by staff so the usual designated kbbq chef can relax and eat. Seating is a bit cramped, and can be an issue for people with accessibility problems. Blue handball is used to hold the burner controls, very random.
